EV charging in the UK — networks, speeds, and rental etiquette

28 January 2026 · 7 min read

Renting an electric car in the UK is easier than ever, but the network is still a patchwork of apps and connectors. A little planning beats range anxiety every time.

Most NOVA Drive EVs use CCS fast charging. You will find 150 kW+ bays at motorway services on Gridserve, Ionity, and many BP Pulse sites. Download two apps before you leave the depot — we recommend your car’s native app plus Zap-Map for live availability.

Hotels often offer 7 kW destination chargers. They are perfect overnight but too slow for a mid-trip top-up if you are behind schedule. Ask the front desk to reserve a bay when you check in.

Billing varies: some networks bill per kWh, others per minute on fast chargers. We return the car with a target state of charge agreed in your contract — typically 70% or higher — to keep turnaround fair for the next driver.

If a charger fails mid-session, note the station ID and call us. We maintain a 24/7 EV line for Taycan, i7, and hybrid fleet support.
